Unreleased screens from the Claude app suggest Anthropic is preparing a Personal Finance feature that links a user’s bank accounts to Claude through Plaid. The screens were posted on October 18 by TestingCatalog, which tracks unreleased features in AI apps. This story is unconfirmed: Anthropic has not announced the feature, and nothing in this report should be read as a launch.
What the screens show is specific enough to describe. An onboarding screen titled Personal Finance reads “Understand your finances with Claude” and “Securely link your bank accounts and ask Claude about spending, plans, and more”, with sample cards for checking, savings, a credit card and a brokerage account.

Claude Personal Finance: What The Unreleased Screens Show
A second screen, headed “Link your bank accounts”, sets out the access model in three promises: “Read-only, so Claude can’t move money.” “Plaid handles sign-in through an encrypted connection.” And “Unlink a bank any time, and Claude stops reading it.” Its button reads “Link with Plaid”, and a footer note on the screen reads “Plaid isn’t available on this account.”
TestingCatalog wrote that “Claude will be able to analyse user’s bank data and build various dashboards on top of it”, and pointed to the new onboarding screen and the addition of Plaid integration logic as its reasons for expecting an announcement relatively soon. Another line on the screens, quoted in the coverage, says “Claude reads your balances and transactions to work with your actual numbers.”
The limits of the evidence are equally clear. There is no launch date, no list of supported countries or banks, no statement of which Claude plans would include the feature, and no published terms from Anthropic. FourWeekMBA, which read the screenshots in full on October 19, noted it checked Anthropic’s newsroom and Claude’s help centre and found nothing on the feature.
Plaid Integration: Read-Only Access, Encrypted Sign-In, Unlink Any Time
Plaid is the connection layer named on the screens. Plaid says it connects more than 12,000 financial institutions, and its role in flows like this is to handle the bank sign-in and return account data — balances and transactions — to the app the user authorised, without the app holding the user’s bank password.
The read-only boundary is the feature’s defining attribute as presented. Claude would read balances and transactions to answer questions and build dashboards, but could not move money. The unlink promise is the corresponding exit: remove the bank, and Claude stops reading it.
There is a direct precedent, and it runs on the same connector. On May 15, Plaid’s chief technology officer Will Robinson wrote that OpenAI had introduced a personal finance preview in ChatGPT powered by Plaid, for Pro users in the US, and that over 200 million people a month ask ChatGPT personal finance questions. If the Claude screens ship as drawn, both major assistants would be renting the same bank-data layer rather than building their own.
From Claude Money To Personal Finance: The Feature’s Second Sighting
This is the second time the feature has surfaced. On September 14, TestingCatalog posted that a “Claude Money” feature was being prepared for the Claude iOS app, describing it as Anthropic’s personal finance solution for connecting bank accounts, and suggesting a US-only launch similar to ChatGPT’s. BleepingComputer reported on September 16 that a Money section had appeared in the iOS app alongside Chats, Code, Artifacts, Dispatch and Cowork, while noting the connection method was then unknown.
TestingCatalog says the feature was named Claude Money during development and has been renamed Personal Finance in the latest update. What changed between the two sightings is the plumbing: September’s screens did not name a provider; October’s name Plaid and spell out the read-only terms. That progression — a named connector and finished onboarding copy — is why the tracker expects news soon, though expectation is not confirmation.
Why It Matters
Claude’s central entity in this story is not a model but a data connection. Balances and transactions are the most concrete personal context an assistant can hold: they turn generic budgeting advice into answers about a person’s actual spending, subscriptions and plans. That is the same consumer-data ground ChatGPT moved onto in May, and it is a natural extension of the finance push behind how Anthropic makes money from subscriptions and enterprise deals.
The neighbours are budgeting apps and banks. A read-only assistant inside Claude competes with standalone money apps for the screen where people make sense of their finances, while banks keep the accounts themselves. For users weighing what Claude is and what its plans include, a finance feature would also become a new reason to stay on a paid tier — if it ships, and if it is tiered at all. Until Anthropic announces it, all of that remains conditional, and this report labels it accordingly: unconfirmed.
Background
Anthropic, founded in 2021, has expanded Claude from a chat assistant into a platform spanning coding, agents and professional tools, including finance-specific products for advisers announced this autumn. OpenAI’s Plaid-powered finance preview in ChatGPT, launched in May for US Pro users, established the pattern of an assistant reading bank data read-only through a specialist connector. The Claude Personal Finance screens suggest Anthropic is preparing its own version of that pattern, under a new name, with the same connector underneath.
