Apple released iOS 27.2 and iPadOS 27.2 on October 26, the first major updates to the operating systems that launched in September, bringing Siri AI to five new languages. According to MacRumors, Siri AI now speaks French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish, up from English only at launch, and can recall past conversations and draw on wider personal context, including photos in Messages, Calendar attendees and voicemails. The update is available for all iPhones running iOS 27, including the iPhone Duo, and all iPads running iPadOS 27, including the newly announced OLED iPad mini. Apple also announced four more Siri AI languages for later this year, though Siri AI remains unavailable in the European Union and mainland China.

What Siri AI Gains In iOS 27.2
Conversation recall is the headline change: according to Apple’s release notes, Siri AI can now recall past conversations, so a user can ask about something Siri said before, such as restaurants it recommended last week. It also draws from more sources, including Message photos, Calendar attendees, voicemails, Safari history and Reading List.
Two new controls come with the wider reach: Excluded Apps lets users choose which apps Siri, Search and suggestions can access, all from one setting, and granular text selection lets users copy just part of a Siri response. Apple’s notes limit Siri AI to all iPhone 16 models and later, plus the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max.
The language expansion matters because Siri AI launched in September speaking English only. French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish take it to six languages in its first major update. The new Siri is a full-screen conversational assistant rather than the old voice overlay, which is why language support, not just accuracy, decides how many users can actually use it day to day.
Messages Suggestions And Other Additions
Messages gains suggestions that act on conversation context: according to Apple’s release notes, they help users take action based on what they are discussing, such as adding a Calendar invite for a dinner mentioned in a chat. Shared Albums in Photos adds caption and comment editing and expiry reminders.
Elsewhere, Photos and Image Playground gain SynthID watermarking to flag AI-generated or modified images. Podcasts splits Up Next into New Episodes and Continue Playing, Games gains a Friends tab, Apple TV gains Simple Profiles for each household member, and FaceTime can add a third-party sign language interpreter or live captioner to a call.
In the European Union, iOS 27.2 introduces an alternative expanded prompt for App Tracking Transparency. Apple also released iOS 26.7.2 with security updates for older devices. Both updates can be downloaded from Settings, then General, then Software Update.
iPhone Duo Gets Pencil Support And Edge Light
The iPhone Duo gets its own additions. According to Apple’s separate Duo release notes, the foldable now works with Apple Pencil and picks up Edge Light, which lights up the user’s face during video calls. The Duo notes also mention Siri AI holding on to context from earlier requests, plus the same Messages suggestions for quick actions in Calendar and Reminders.
The Duo arrived days ago, so this is its first major software update since launch. Apple said a small number of Duo units have an inner display issue, and the update lands as early owners settle in with the new form factor. The OLED iPad mini, announced the same week, also runs the new iPadOS 27.2 release.
More Languages Coming Later This Year
Apple also announced that Siri AI will gain support for Chinese (Traditional), Norwegian, Turkish and Vietnamese later this year, taking it to ten languages within months of its September debut. Apple has not given exact dates for the four additions.
Why It Matters
Siri AI is Apple’s answer to the conversational assistant race, and its value depends on how many people can use it in their own language and how much of their daily context it can safely reach. Five new languages in the first major update, plus four more promised, show Apple expanding that reach quickly rather than treating English speakers as the only first-class users. The new controls matter just as much: as Siri AI pulls in photos, messages, calendars and voicemails, Excluded Apps gives users one place to draw the line.
For iPhone owners, the practical test is simpler: conversation recall and Messages suggestions turn Siri AI from a question-answer tool into something that follows an ongoing thread of life admin, from dinner plans to past recommendations. If those features work reliably in the new languages, Siri AI stops feeling like a September demo and starts behaving like a daily tool.
Background
Apple launched iOS 27 in September with Siri AI as its centrepiece, a rebuilt assistant with a full-screen conversational interface. The iPhone Duo, Apple’s first foldable iPhone, launched on October 23, and a new OLED iPad mini followed days later, giving Apple a busy autumn hardware slate.
