OpenAI is building a Business Hub inside ChatGPT that lets businesses claim their listing and watch how they show up in AI answers. The tool tracks how often a business is mentioned in ChatGPT conversations, counts impressions and clicks on links to its website, and shows the numbers as a daily chart. It is still in development and has not been announced by OpenAI, but a banner spotted inside the product suggests a launch is getting close.

What the Business Hub Will Show

The tool does three jobs. First, it shows businesses how they appear in ChatGPT, tracking mentions and counting impressions, the times a business appears in an answer, and clicks on links to its website. Second, it lets a business add new products and keep its details current. Third, the business agent can answer customer questions using context the business controls.

Access is limited to businesses that verified they own the business, for example by connecting a Shopify store. The tool is part of a larger Business Hub that OpenAI is building inside ChatGPT, and it is separate from ChatGPT ads, which are a paid placement. This one is aimed at organic answers, the mentions a business earns rather than buys.

There are limits to what it reveals. It does not show the prompts people typed, any user data, or how a business ranks against competitors, so it cannot explain why mentions rise or fall. What it does offer is first-party data: OpenAI’s own count of how often a business surfaced and how often people clicked through.

Our Read

This is OpenAI building the Search Console for the answer era. Google gave webmasters Search Console to see how their sites performed in search; now OpenAI is giving businesses the same window into ChatGPT answers. Until now, a business could only guess whether ChatGPT was sending it customers, or pay a third-party tool to probe the chatbot with test prompts.

The timing fits ChatGPT’s growth as a place people discover things. ChatGPT search now runs at roughly a fifth of Google’s volume, and OpenAI has been adding business features all year, from ads to shopping tools. A measurement layer was the missing piece: businesses will not spend on being visible in ChatGPT if they cannot see the return.

The caveat is that none of this is announced or live yet. Search Engine Roundtable first reported the sighting, spotted by Juozas Kaziukėnas, who posted a screenshot on LinkedIn after months of tracking. OpenAI has given no launch date, and the verification rule means businesses without a connected store may have to wait. It is intent, not a release.

Why It Matters

For businesses, this is the first way to measure ChatGPT visibility, arriving as AI answers steer real buying decisions. For OpenAI, it is a step toward making ChatGPT a platform businesses manage, not just a chatbot they advertise in. For the wider search world, it confirms the answer engine is getting the tooling search engines took twenty years to build.

Background

ChatGPT has been moving toward businesses all year. OpenAI has added advertising, shopping features and tools for companies that want their products found inside conversations, while ChatGPT’s share of search keeps climbing. The Business Hub is the measurement half of that push, giving companies numbers for the visibility they have so far only been able to guess at.
