ServiceNow announced on 28 October 2026 that it has expanded its partnership with OpenAI, bringing enterprise workflows directly into ChatGPT and Codex while adding joint security and voice tools for large organisations. A new ServiceNow plugin for ChatGPT is available now, with richer features due by the end of 2026, and OpenAI is joining ServiceNow’s Control Tower Alliance as a founding member. Both companies will also use each other’s products internally, with ServiceNow rolling out ChatGPT Work and Codex to its whole workforce.
Workflows Inside ChatGPT
The centrepiece is the ServiceNow plugin for ChatGPT, built on ServiceNow’s Action Fabric. It connects ChatGPT’s reasoning to ServiceNow’s enterprise context, business rules and permissions, so an employee can work through a business process in conversation. ServiceNow remains where each action is executed and governed.
In practice, an IT worker could ask ChatGPT to find similar past incidents, assess the risk of a planned change and update the relevant records without leaving the chat. ServiceNow also plans richer extensions, including a view for an on-call engineer covering linked alerts, recent changes and affected services. The plugin is available in the OpenAI marketplace now.
Codex, Security And Voice
Developers get a second strand through Codex, OpenAI’s coding agent. The companies plan to integrate Codex with ServiceNow’s AI Workflow Factory during 2027, letting teams build applications using ServiceNow business context. OpenAI models will also power Build Agent and Autonomous Engineer there, moving customers from scattered legacy applications to modern workflows.
Security is the third strand, and the one with the longest timetable. ServiceNow and OpenAI are building a joint solution combining OpenAI’s cybersecurity capabilities with ServiceNow’s view of assets, access and enterprise context, to help teams find, triage, validate and fix attack paths across code, applications, workloads, networks and identities.
The companies say one codebase scan can surface tens of thousands of possible vulnerabilities or more, so ranking the imminent risks is the hard part. That security work is expected to enter early access in January 2027, with general availability planned for the second quarter of 2027, supporting ServiceNow’s Shift Zero strategy of preventing attacks before an exploit is used.
A voice experience for the Super Intelligence Control Tower, powered by OpenAI voice models, is due for preview in the first quarter of 2027. A risk professional could describe an AI use case aloud, the agent would pre-fill the questionnaire fields it can, ask follow-up questions where information is missing, and assign a risk rating based on the stated purpose.
Both companies will also use the partnership themselves. ServiceNow plans to make ChatGPT Work and Codex available to all of its employees, while OpenAI plans to use ServiceNow across its own operations. OpenAI is also joining ServiceNow’s newly announced Control Tower Alliance as a founding member, alongside other AI, security and infrastructure leaders.
Why It Matters
The deal matters because it tackles the main objection to agents in big companies: control. An agent that can act across systems is only useful if its permissions follow the employee, its actions are recorded, and someone can approve or stop them. ServiceNow’s pitch is that it supplies that control layer, while OpenAI supplies the reasoning and coding ability.
It also sharpens OpenAI’s enterprise push, which has moved quickly from selling models to embedding ChatGPT and Codex inside the software companies already run on. OpenAI announced a similar expansion with Oracle’s business applications at Oracle AI World the previous day, and ServiceNow gives it a second large route into IT, HR and finance workflows.
Background
The expansion builds on a multi-year agreement the two companies struck in January 2026, which made OpenAI a preferred intelligence capability on the ServiceNow AI Platform, and it sits alongside ServiceNow’s work with other model providers, including Google’s Gemini Enterprise for ServiceNow workflows. ServiceNow says more than 100 billion workflows run on its platform each year.
