Different emerged from stealth on Tuesday, October 20 with a $48 million seed round and a product already live: an AI marketing system that plans, builds, launches and tunes B2B demand generation campaigns end to end. The round was led by General Catalyst, with participation from Lightspeed Venture Partners, Together Fund, Haystack Ventures, MXV Capital and Firebolt Ventures, the company announced in a launch release carried by PR Newswire and reported the same day by AI Parabellum.
The pitch is a ratio. Different says it was built so a marketing team of five can do the work of 50 — the size of the team its chief executive watched coordinate dozens of tools at his previous company. Marketers keep the strategy and the creative ideas, review and approve everything before it goes live, and the system does the building, launching and adjusting in between.

Different’s $48M Seed: Round, Backers And Use Of Funds
A $48 million seed is unusually large for a company announcing itself the same day, and the syndicate signals where the money thinks marketing is going. General Catalyst led, and its chief executive Hemant Taneja called changing how companies market “one of the largest opportunities in AI,” backing what he described as an ambitious team with the track record and technical depth for the category. Lightspeed joined alongside Together Fund, Haystack Ventures, MXV Capital and Firebolt Ventures.
Different, headquartered in San Francisco, said the funding will expand its engineering and go-to-market teams. The product is not a waitlist: the system is available today at different.ai, which makes this a launch with paying-workload ambitions from day one rather than a raise against a future release.
One Closed Loop: Planning, Launching, Optimising And AEO
Most AI marketing tools speed up a single task — drafting an email, writing ad copy, generating an image. Different’s claim is the whole campaign in one closed loop. It plans each campaign and builds the buyer journeys, creates and launches the ads, emails and landing pages, tailors messages to each target account, industry and buyer persona, and shifts spend toward what is working while campaigns run.
The system works from a shared memory of each company’s strategy, brand and past results, applying what it learns on one channel to the others and to future campaigns. It also delivers answer engine optimisation, or AEO — monitoring how a brand shows up in AI answers, recommending content and creating it — which connects the product to the visibility discipline our explainer on how brands track their visibility inside ChatGPT and Gemini answers covers. Every output still passes a human marketer for review before it goes live.
The Founders: ThoughtSpot, Adobe And Flipkart Marketing Systems
The three co-founders each met the coordination problem from a different side. Chief executive Ajeet Singh, who previously co-founded ThoughtSpot and Nutanix, saw it at ThoughtSpot, where a strong marketing team of about 50 people worked across dozens of tools. Chief product officer Abhishek Pani led the machine-learning team behind Adobe’s marketing products and Adobe’s own marketing. Chief technology officer Abhinav Yajurvedi built marketing infrastructure at consumer scale for Flipkart and Myntra.
“We built Different so a marketing team of five can do the work of 50,” Singh said. “Marketers own the strategy and the creative ideas. Different turns them into campaigns and keeps learning and optimizing as they run, so companies can grow faster without wasting spend.” The company offered two early customer results, both its own figures: Motif’s three-person marketing team went from one campaign at a time to more than a dozen across four channels in a month, and Descope used the system to identify and redirect 60% of paid spend that was being wasted on poor targeting, improving meeting rates for its sales team.
Why It Matters
The central entity is Different’s AI marketing system, and the attribute investors just priced is scope: not a point tool but the full demand generation loop, funded at seed with $48 million because the coordination layer is where B2B marketing budgets leak. Its neighbours feel it in sequence — lean marketing teams, who are offered leverage without headcount; the point-solution vendors and agencies whose single tasks the loop absorbs; and the AI-visibility industry, because Different builds AEO monitoring into the campaign system itself rather than leaving it to a separate tracker. The pattern matches the week’s other startup economics: Otter.ai’s $320 million raise from General Catalyst’s growth fund priced voice data as an enterprise asset, Town’s $108 million Series B priced team AI assistants, and Tenstorrent’s $1.5 billion Series E priced the hardware underneath all of it. Different’s test is narrower and harder to fake: whether marketers trust a system to move real spend, not just draft copy.
Background
B2B marketing has spent a decade assembling stacks — one tool for ads, another for email, another for landing pages, another for analytics — and AI first arrived inside those tools one feature at a time. The agent era is now collapsing the stack into systems that run the workflow itself, with humans approving rather than assembling. Different, founded in San Francisco by veterans of ThoughtSpot, Adobe and Flipkart, is one of the largest seed bets yet that the collapse happens at the campaign level.
